School Choir’s Silent Caroling Initiative Confuses Holiday Choir
In December, the Memorial High Choir–seeking to innovate traditional caroling–launched a “Silent Caroling” campaign, handing out lyric booklets to passersby on campus while their own performance remained electronically delivered via a smartphone app. Students cheered when they scanned the QR code, but campus visitors found the silent pageant disconcerting–walking past choir robes in formation without hearing a note.
Some puzzled bystanders joined in lip-sync routines; others tapped their phones in search of volume controls. Campus security fielded calls about “ghost choir rehearsals,” while the Drama Club pitched a shadow play to accompany the next silent event. Despite confusion, the Silent Caroling raised $500 for winter clothing drives, proving that holiday spirit can be heard if you have the right device.
Next year’s plan: “Augmented Reality Caroling” glasses to project virtual choir sound waves–hopefully saving ears and explaining the silence.
