Math Department’s Pi Day “Pie Toss” Accidentally Douses Vice Principal
Memorial High’s annual Pi Day celebration reached new comedic heights–and drenched new administrative trials–when the Math Department organized a “Pie Toss Fundraiser” to raise money for new graphing calculators. Participants paid $2 to lob whipped-cream pies at volunteer “Pie-Targets” perched behind podiums on the football field.
Vice Principal Torres, donned in a protective poncho and sporting a bullseye, was slated as the final target–until a junior’s ricochet sent a pie flying off-axis and splattering the unsuspecting principal instead. The resulting whipped-cream war erupted spontaneously, with teachers, students, and staff ducking flying meringue missiles.
Teary-eyed from both laughter and whipped-cream eyes, Vice Principal Torres declared Pi Day “the most irrational event of the year” and promptly invoked the “Meringue Moratorium”–a ban on all projectile desserts for the rest of the semester. The Math Department, undeterred, raised $1,200 before the ban and plans a lemon-meringue “Calculator Cake Walk” in May.
The incident made local headlines under “Pie-Trial by Meringue,” and one parent fundraiser summed it up: “We came for pi; we stayed for the pie-fest pandemonium.”
