Cafeteria Introduces “Mystery Meat Monday” Debate Forum
In an attempt to spice up lunchtime discourse, Memorial High’s cafeteria launched “Mystery Meat Monday Debate Forum,” where diners sample a surprise protein and then argue its identity and ethical provenance in real time.
This week’s entry–an unmarked gray patty–yielded claims ranging from “sardine-infused tofu” to “lab-grown kangaroo.” A panel of volunteer judges from Biology, History, and Drama chaired the debate, awarding points for flavor analysis, rhetorical flourish, and audience applause.
One foodie freshman presented a Marxist critique: “This patty represents industrialized agriculture’s commodification of taste.” Another student turned it into performance art, reciting Samuel Beckett lines between bites.
While some parents balk at the philosophical hunger games, students call it “the most stimulating protein we’ve ever eaten.” The Culinary Club plans next month’s “Global Gumbo Guess,” inviting skeptics and skeptics alike to chew, think, and debate.
Whether Mystery Meat Monday survives nutritional scrutiny or ends in digestive revolt, one fact remains: at Memorial High, even lunchtime is an edible exploration of ideas.
