The School Library Still Has A VHS Section And Nobody Knows Why
In a baffling display of technological inertia, Jefferson High’s library proudly maintains a “Retro Media Corner” featuring 327 VHS tapes, including a well-worn copy of Shakespeare: The Animated Tales (1992). Librarian Ms. Whitmore insists they’re “for historical research,” though the only checkout this decade was by a hipster teacher who ironically screened Bill Nye the Science Guy on Earth Day.
Students report the tapes make excellent doorstops, while the AV Club has begun using them as currency in a post-apocalyptic barter system. “One Oregon Trail documentary = two bags of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos,” explains club president Darren Li. Meanwhile, the school’s lone VCR–duct-taped to a rolling cart–emits a haunting whir during quiet study hours, as if begging for mercy.
