Creative Writing Snippets
The Creative Writing Club unveiled its year’s best micro-stories in the hall-of-fame hallway display, where 100-word flashes of Maverick life spilled across bulletin boards like literary neon signs. One snippet by senior Chloe Tran reimagined the cafeteria pizza as an intergalactic spaceship, its pepperoni windows revealing hungry aliens debating Earth’s snack diplomacy. Students paused mid-hallway sprint to read, laugh, and marvel at how a single paragraph could turn cafeteria chaos into cosmic caper.
Freshman poet Marcus Lee offered a raw, three-line haiku on locker locks and lost lunchboxes that read: “Cold locker whispers,/ yesterday’s burrito stub,/ echoes of regret.” His minimalistic verse earned spontaneous wink-and-nod approvals from both art students and breakfast-challenged classmates, proving that brevity can cut deeper than any five-paragraph essay.
The showcase concluded with an experimental “Collaborative Story Chain,” where each snippet ended mid-sentence and the next author picked up the thread. The result was a hallucinogenic rollercoaster: “ and then the band’s tuba blasted confetti into the honor roll platter ” and on it went, through hall monitors turned improv actors, culminating in a final climax where the mascot marched off with the final comma–an open invitation for next year’s Mavericks to finish the sentence in text or in tassel.
