Campus Sustainability Committee Opens Repair Café
The Sustainability Committee launched a weekly “Repair Café” in the science wing, inviting students and staff to fix broken clothing, gadgets, and even bikes–free of charge. Volunteer tutors from Tech Club and Home Ec shared soldering irons, sewing machines, and good old elbow grease.
Monday’s grand opening saw fifteen fix-it stations: a leather jacket patch booth, a smartphone screen swap table, and a shoelace-tying marathon. One sophomore walked out with a resurrected handheld gaming console–and a new respect for circuit boards.
Library staff report fewer lost devices, and custodians celebrate fewer plastic waste bins. The café’s motto: “Reduce, reuse, respect your Maverick-made.”
