Senior Prank Involves 800 Rubber Ducks And A Confused Superintendent
Memorial High School’s Class of 2025 left their mark this week with a senior prank so elaborate it briefly convinced the school board that the building had been overrun by aquatic poultry. At approximately 6:15 AM, custodians arriving for duty were met with the sight of 800 bright yellow rubber ducks floating in the main hallway, swimming proudly through a sea of blue plastic tarp and bubble machines labeled “Duck Lagoon.”
According to eyewitnesses, the operation began overnight when a covert group of seniors calling themselves the “Quack Squad” infiltrated the building through an unsecured band room window. “It was like Ocean’s Eleven, but with more duck whistles and less George Clooney,” said one senior, who requested anonymity and duck-related immunity.
The pranksters placed ducks in lockers, sinks, water fountains, and even the trophy case, where one was spotted wearing a tiny varsity jacket and holding a scroll reading “Most Likely to Paddle Off Into the Sunset.”
Principal Harris, initially assuming the worst, called the district superintendent at 6:45 AM. “He said ducks in the hall’ and I thought it was code for a lockdown,” said Superintendent Langley. “Turns out it was just literal ducks. Plastic ones. And one of them had glitter glue on its bill.”
Students arrived to find the building transformed into an accidental duck sanctuary, complete with handmade signs like “Maverick Mallard Crossing” and “Duck the Dress Code.” A looping soundtrack of quacks played over the intercom, reportedly curated by the AV Club under the alias “DJ Duck Tape.”
By noon, photos of the scene were trending locally under the hashtag #SeniorQuackAttack. Even the local news showed up, briefly mistaking the incident for a wildlife rehabilitation effort. “We were ready to cover a heartwarming tale of ecological recovery,” said Channel 9 reporter Monica Vale. “Instead, we got teens in waders reciting duck puns.”
Despite the chaos, school officials were surprisingly lenient. “As far as pranks go, it was clever, contained, and nobody got wet,” said Assistant Principal Torres. “Except Coach Dan. He slipped on a duck and now claims to be emotionally bonded with it.”
The cleanup effort involved five mops, three shop vacs, and an impromptu “Adopt-A-Duck” drive, where students were encouraged to take a rubber duck home “to remember the madness.” By the end of the day, over 300 ducks had found new families, and one was elected honorary Homecoming Queen in a mock ceremony held during sixth period lunch.
“It’s the kind of prank you tell your kids about,” said senior class president Maya J., proudly holding a duck named Reginald. “Unless your kid becomes a principal. Then maybe you keep it to yourself.”
As for the rest of the rubber duck army, they’re being stored in the janitorial closet until further notice–or until next year’s juniors get ideas. Either way, Memorial High won’t be forgetting this senior sendoff anytime soon. Quack on, Mavericks. Quack on.
